I'm not sure the headerbar needs to be so big considering its contents. I think maybe you could get away with a shorter headerbar with 16px symbolic icons.

The title and subtitle for the welcome screen should both be independent clauses, imo.

Also, why not use the SourceList badge style instead of this (n) stuff :p Then again is the number of each class of users really important information?

Does the new channel dialog need to be a modal? Could it be a popover instead?

I'm also not 100% sure the chat entry stands out enough here. But it may work well in practice. I dunno. Just an opinion/feeling.

I'm not sure in this mockup how to remove a channel that I've added. Should we just use the inline toolbar to add and remove channels (and servers)?

Another thing that is missing (but very important) is the channel topic.

Lastly, you don't show a field to authenticate if I have a registered nick.

But overall, this is already much nicer than Empathy's IRC handling :)

I think it'd be great if the Cable devs and you & Harvey could collaborate on UX issues. Maybe you can try aout the latest lp:cable revision.

Fow example how should favorite servers and channels be handled?

Yeah I agree with Dan on the toolbar, but I think the entry is pretty nice. I think the join a channel should really be modal, as having it as a popup doesn't feel as nice IMO.

Overall, this is pretty neat, and I'll try to implement these ideas into Cable.

BEAUTIFUL

But the "new chat" icon would look better if you make it a little bit bigger, I think.
